Coordinates: 33 ° 20 ′ S , 116 ° 44 ′ E The Shire of West Arthur is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . The area is 2834 km² and has about 800 inhabitants (2016).
West Arthur is located in the western Australian "wheat belt" in the southwest of the state west of the Albany Highway about 175 kilometers southeast of the capital Perth . The area includes: Darkan , Arthur River , Boolading, Bowelling, Cordering, Duranillin , Moodiarrup and Trigwell. The headquarters of the Shire Council is in the village of Darkan, where about 220 residents live (2016).

The West Arthur Council has nine members. They are elected by all residents of the LGA. West Arthur is not divided into districts. The Council Chairman and Shire President are also recruited from among the Councilor.
