West Weber is an unincorporated community in Weber County , Utah in the United States . The village is about 13 km northwest of Ogden . West Weber, which had around 700 inhabitants at the time, was formed as a Mormon parish in 1877 . The village is northeast of the intersection of Utah State Route 134 and Utah State Route 39 . The closest interstate is the Veterans Memorial Highway ( Interstate 84 / Interstate 15 ), accessed via Route 39, about five miles to the east.

There is an elementary school in West Weber . The Weber River runs nearby; a bridge has been crossing the river since 1903.

History and economy

The eastern area of ​​West Weber was also known as Alma or Garland for a while. John Staker and Sbenezer Wiggins grew grain here in 1853. However, the land in West Weber was not very productive and in 1903 was considered one of the poorest between the Great Salt Lake and Ogden. Nevertheless, beets were grown in the area , which was made possible by drilling artesian wells for irrigation and fertilization with nitrates . Archibald McFarland had dug an irrigation canal in West Weber in 1859. The early settlers invested around 2500 US dollars in 1860-61 to  irrigate ten smaller farms.
