The Westerly State Airport ( IATA: WST , ICAO: KWST ) is a public airport, which located in Washington County in the state of Rhode Iceland is. The airport is mainly used by general aviation ; however, there is also scheduled flight operations by New England Airlines to Rhode Island .

Westerly is one of six active airports operated by the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. The others are Providence , Newport , Pawtucket , North Kingstown and Block Island airports .

history

In the 1920s, the airport had only one grass runway and in the 1940s it became the second state airport in the United States after Providence. During the Second World War it was used as a base for the Navy because of its location between Boston and New York City and was therefore paved.
