The hamlet of Westerried is part of the Kraftisried community in the Swabian district of Ostallgäu . Westerried belonged to the prince monastery of Kempten . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria . In 2016, around 25 people lived in Westerried.

history

The hamlet has a chapel, 6 farms, about 3 wind turbines and at least 8 companies (excluding farms).

For several centuries there was a tunnel from Westerried to the neighboring Kipfenberg. There were castles in both Kipfenberg and Westerried. The castle in Westerried was destroyed by the Swedes in the Thirty Years' War in 1646 . St. Anton's Chapel was built from the ruins of the castle. In Westerried a memorial stone reminds of the location of the castle.

In 1909 a bypass road was built in Westerried, the castle ruins were demolished and Roman bricks and coins were found.
