The Westhafen-Pier (alternative spellings also Westhafen Pier or Westhafenpier ) is a structure erected between 2002 and 2004 at the western end of the new residential and commercial area on the former Frankfurt Westhafen in the Gutleutviertel in Frankfurt am Main .

"Coal sucker" for the HKW West

The building designed by the Frankfurt architects Schneider + Schumacher is located directly on the banks of the Main and consists of five office buildings connected to one another by glass bridges, which stand on a three-storey base. The striking facade is made of anodized aluminum. The office buildings have almost 15,000 square meters of office space, while a parking garage and catering space have been set up in the base.

The West thermal power station rises up behind the building and is still supplied with coal from supplies from the Main . The noise-insulated conveyor belt for deliveries of coal runs through the building. The loading of the belt and the unloading of the cargo ships are carried out with an unusual fire-fighting crane , which uses an Archimedean screw in its trunk to move the finely ground coal out of the ships.

The architecture of the building was part of the German contribution to the 10th Venice International Architecture Biennale 2006 under the theme “Cities. Architecture and Society ".
