These data are evaluated, combined with data from global weather models and summarized.

criticism

WetterOnline complained against the Federal Republic of Germany regarding the offer from the German weather service "DWD WarnWetter-App", since this offer would be in direct competition with private weather apps. After the court ruled in the first instance that the DWD's weather app was inadmissible under competition law, there was criticism of WetterOnline's approach. The tenor of the criticism in reviews for the apps on offer and in posts in social media was that the company wanted to establish weather data as mandatory fee-based information and to strengthen its market position at the expense of the tax-financed weather data collected. When the obligation to pay for full use of the "DWD WarnWetter-App" came into effect on December 19, 2017, another violent shitstorm against Wetteronline flared up on social media. Furthermore, a free version of the DWD's WarnWetter app is available with only information on severe weather conditions.

Even after a change to the DWDG , the Federal Court of Justice ruled in favor of WetterOnline on March 12, 2020;
