The Barrage du Seujet is a weir and run-of-river power station on the Rhone in Geneva that regulates the water level in Lake Geneva . It is located between the Pont de la Coulouvrenière and Pont Sous-Terre bridges , one kilometer from the end of the lake.
The name comes from the quay du Seujet .
history
The Barrage du Seujet was inaugurated in 1995 after three years of construction. It replaces the old weirs at the Pont de la Machine and the old power station of the Usine des Forces Motrices de la Coulouvrenière , which previously jointly regulated the water level of Lake Geneva. An agreement between the cantons of Geneva , Vaud and Valais was agreed for the construction . The weir, the power station and the lock are operated by the public Services Industriels de Genève (SIG). The city of Geneva is financially responsible for the lock, the public terrace and the jetty. The cantons of Vaud and Valais contribute to the maintenance of the weirs.
Maritime regulation is defined in the inter-cantonal agreement and regulations. The lake level must accordingly be between 371.7 m above sea level. M. and 372.3 m above sea level. M. to be held. In addition, every leap year the lake level at the beginning of spring is 371.5 m above sea level for one month . M. reduced to enable work on the lake shores.
technology
On the left, the system consists of three 13 m wide segment weirs , one of which is part of a 27 m long lock. On the right is the power plant with three Kaplan turbines with a horizontal axis. The total installed capacity is 8.7 MW, the annual electricity production 21.1 GWh. The entire power plant is underground, above which there is a publicly accessible terrace which leads to a footbridge over the overflow weirs. There is also a fish ladder and a beaver ladder .
The Barrage du Seujet is important for electricity production not only because of its own output, but also because of the regulation of the Rhone runoff between 50 and 550 m³ / s in order to adapt the output of the Barrage de Verbois and Chancy-Pougny run-of-river power plants below to the electricity demand during the day . On an annual average, approx. 270 m³ of water flow out of the lake every second.
