The term Wetterung , shortened bettors , weather , Weddern or Wedderburn , comes from the Low German and refers to a man-made, straight drainage ditch , which serves the agricultural land or marshes to drain. Sometimes already existing rivers were converted to weather conditions that did not show a straight course, such as the Brook weather in the Vierländer Elbmarsch , the Harschenflether weather near Stade or the Kampritt weather in the Wilstermarsch . A weather system can be several kilometers long and over 20 meters wide.

history

The first weather conditions in northern Germany were created around 1100 as part of the Holler colonization by Dutch immigrants in the Wesermarsch and then in the Elbmarschen ( Seestermüher , Hadelner , Haseldorfer and Wilstermarsch).

functionality

For example, surface or rainwater seeps through drains into such a receiving water, which directs it into the next larger river. Often there is a pumping station at the transition to the river , which serves to compensate for the difference in height at high tide. A weather can also absorb backwater after heavy rainfall.
