White Willow is a Norwegian progressive rock band that was formed in 1992.
Band history
After two years of recording, the band's debut album was released in 1995 , which in addition to founder Holm-Lupo at the time consisted of Sara Trondal, Eldrid Johansen, Jan Tariq Rahman, Audun Kjus, Tirill Mohn, Alexander Engebretsen and an unnamed drummer. The melancholic retro prog of Ignis Fatuus was strongly influenced by folk influences. For the second album, which followed in 1998, the line-up was changed. Only Holm-Lupo and Rahman stayed in the band, which was completed by Sylvia Erichsen, Frode Lia and Mattias Olsson ( Änglagård ). Ex Tenebris was arranged more symphonically than the debut. After several festival appearances, the line-up changed again.
Holm-Lupo and Erichsen were now the remaining members. Brynjar Dambo, Aage Moltke Schou, Johannes Sæbøe and Ketil Vestrum Einarsen were also involved in Sacrament , which was published in 2000. On the album, the earlier folk influences have now been greatly reduced. In 2001 White Willow performed at NEARfest. Johannes Sæbøe, Martha Berger Walthinsen and Lars Fredrik Frøislie ( Wobbler ) have now joined the band for Dambo and Einarsen. The album Storm Season was released in 2004, dispensed with folk elements and was heavier and darker than the previous releases. Sæbøe and Erichsen then left the band, Einarsen returned and Trude Eidtang became the new singer. With the following album Signal to Noise , White Willow tried to integrate more modern elements into their style. Then the band took a long break. Holm-Lupo, Frøislie and Erichsen re-formed White Willow in 2010 with the former members Erichsen and Olsson. Ellen Andrea Wang now took over the bass. With the album Terminal Twilight , which was released in 2011, the band partially returned to their former melancholy folk-retro prog.
For the single release Animal Magnetism on Termo Records, the band resorted to a piece by the Hanoverian Scorpions . The singer Venke Knutson took over the singing instead of the resigned Sylvia Erichsen . In addition, the renowned klezmer musician David Krakauer set accents on his clarinet.
