Whitecourt is a village in the Canadian province of Alberta in Woodlands County , about 175 km northwest of Edmonton . The village can be reached from Alberta Highway 43 and Alberta Highway 32 . Whitecourt is on the Athabasca River and the McLeod River . Whitecourt has 8971 inhabitants (2006).
Whitecourt's economy is largely dependent on agriculture , forestry and the sale of natural gas and oil . The village was given the current name Whitecourt in 1910 by a postmaster .
