The Whiteshell River is a left tributary of the Winnipeg River in the southeastern Canadian province of Manitoba and in the extreme southwest of Ontario .
The Whiteshell River has its origin in Winnetka Lake in Ontario not far from the provincial border. It initially flows west to Manitoba to the West Hawk Lake impact crater . It flows through the two smaller lakes Moth Lake and Royal Lake . Within Manitoba, the course of the Whiteshell River lies entirely within Whiteshell Provincial Park . The river leaves West Hawk Lake heading north. It flows through a number of other lakes ( Caddy Lake , South Cross Lake , North Cross Lake , Sailing Lake , Lone Island Lake , Jessica Lake , White Lake , Betula Lake , Heart Lake ) before joining the Winnipeg River 10 km below Slave Falls flows out. Several of the lakes through which the Whiteshell River flows are regulated.
The Whiteshell River is approximately 100 km in length. At the gauge below Jessica Lake , its mean discharge is 3.8 m³ / s. The catchment area at the level covers 884 km².
