Wieland Barthelmess

Wieland Barthelmess (born October 5, 1955 in Schweinfurt ) is a German art historian, author and gallery owner.

Life

Wieland Barthelmess grew up in Bad Kissingen and attended grammar school there until 1975 . From 1975 he lived in Berlin , he tried his hand at first as a rock musician and songwriter . B. from 1977 to 1979 appearances at the Nuremberg Bardentreffen , where he took first place in the 1977 songwriting competition. From 1981 he studied English, journalism, theater studies and art history at the Free University of Berlin . In 1986 he became the managing director of a Berlin gallery, followed by his doctorate at the Free University in 1987 in the subject of art history.

Barthelmess has been independently active in the art trade since 1990. In November 1990 he opened the first gallery in East Berlin, the "Galerie am Gendarmenmarkt " in the historic center of Berlin. This has been operating under the name of “Galerie Barthelmess & Wischnewski” since 2003 and is now located on Sesenheimer Strasse near the Deutsche Oper in Berlin-Charlottenburg .

Wieland Barthelmess is the author of several books on the fine arts, for example he has published artist biographies on Elisabeth Büchsel , Hans Hartig and Erich Kliefert or on the (unknown) painters of Berlin Impressionism around 1900. In recent years he has also dealt with historical writing Novels.
