The Jack Steinberger Gymnasium is a natural science high school in Bad Kissingen . It is the only state high school in Bad Kissingen. It is named after the Nobel Prize winner Jack Steinberger .

history

The grammar school was founded in 1871 as a three-class Royal Bavarian trade school. In 1877 the school became a six-class Royal Bavarian Realschule. There have been several changes in concept in its history. In the beginning , the Latin classes were abolished several times as the first foreign language in 1997/1998 due to lack of money. In 1937 the school was finally converted into an upper secondary school; this year the school was also attended by girls for the first time. Since February 2009 the JSG has been a so-called seminar school.

It has an observatory .

Branches

Since the 1974/1975 class, the Jack Steinberger Gymnasium Bad Kissingen has included a natural science branch, a social science branch and a modern language branch.

In the social branch it is possible from the 10th grade to take Spanish instead of Latin / French. The scientific-technological branch includes computer science in grades 9 to 10 as well as experimental lessons in physics / chemistry / biology. Here, too, it is possible to take Spanish instead of Latin or French.

Student and teacher exchanges

Since 1986 the school has held annual student exchanges with Vernon in France, with Massa in Italy and, since 2001, with Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

There is also an exchange at teacher level. Teachers at the grammar school have already taught in Chile, Japan, South Africa, the USA and in Italy (Milan and Rome). In return, foreign language assistants from France (including Grenoble, Toulouse Lyon Paris), Great Britain (including Harrogate in Nork Yorkshire, Barrow-in-Furness in Lancashire, Winchester in Hampshire), Scotland (Inverness) and the USA (Milwaukee in Wisconsin and Plano) have taught and Dallas, Texas) at Jack Steinberger High School.

Competitions and Awards

The school takes part in many competitions such as “ Jugend musiziert ”, the “ Mathematics Olympiad ”, the “ German Olympiad ” and the “ Physics Olympiad ”.

For several years now, the school has also been well represented in the “ Jugend forscht ” competition with seven to ten projects a year. Some of these projects even made points at the country level in the past.

The Jack Steinberger Gymnasium has been taking part in the “ European competition ” since 1974 and is one of the most active participating schools in Germany with an average of 400 to 500 contributions per year (for example in the form of essays and artistic contributions). The number of victories at the grammar school is above the national average; since 1975 over 80 state winners of the competition have come from school. As part of the competition, its participants take regular trips to major cities, for example in the Czech Republic, France, Hungary and Italy.

In January 2009, the Bavarian European Minister Emilia Müller awarded the grammar school with the European certificate, with which the outstanding European activities of Bavarian schools are highlighted and recognized.

Electives

In addition to normal lessons, there is the option of taking part in so-called elective subjects in the afternoons. In addition to languages such as Spanish , Greek , Russian etc., social electives such as school paramedics, vivarium, theater, musical etc. are also offered. For those interested in science , there is computer science , youth research, etc.
