Wiesław Tadeusz Żelazko (born February 16, 1933 in Łódź , Poland ) is a Polish mathematician .

Wiesław Tadeusz Żelazko received his doctorate from the University of Warsaw under Stanisław Mazur in 1960 and completed his habilitation there in 1965.

Żelazko is a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and editor of the mathematical journal Studia Mathematica . From 1984 to 1986 he was President of the Polish Mathematical Society . His main area of ​​work is functional analysis , in particular the theory of Banach algebras and topological algebras . In addition, he works in operator theory and harmonic analysis . The Gleason-Kahane-Żelazko Theorem and the Hirschfeld-Żelazko Theorem are associated with his name.

Żelazko received the Stefan Banach Prize in 1967 and the Stefan Banach Medal in 2000.
