Wiesław Myśliwski
Wiesław Myśliwski (born March 25, 1932 in Dwikozy near Sandomierz ) is a Polish writer. He is one of the most important contemporary authors in Poland .
Life
Myśliwski comes from a family that belonged to the Polish middle class. His father was an officer and took part in the Polish-Soviet War in 1920. After the end of World War II , Myśliwski studied Polish studies at the Catholic University of Lublin from 1951 to 1956 . From 1955 to 1976 he worked as deputy editor, publisher and editor-in-chief at Ludowa Spółdzielnia Wydawnicza publishing house . From 1975 to 1999 he was editor-in-chief of the quarterly magazine Regiony and from 1993 to 1999 he was also the director of Sycyna magazine. From 1971 to 1983 Myśliwski was a member of the Polish Writers' Union. He lives in Warsaw today .
In 1967 his first novel Nagi sad ( The Naked Garden ) was published in Poland , which was awarded the Stanisław Piętak Prize. Since then, several novels and dramas have appeared that “are commonly referred to as 'peasant literature'. They deal with the identity problems of the villages and their inhabitants in times of historical change. ”Myśliwski's works have been translated into English, German, Dutch, Russian, Hungarian, Czech, Slovak, Romanian, Bulgarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian, Ukrainian and Georgian. For Widnokrąg ( The Bright Horizon , 1997) and Traktat o łuskaniu fasoli (2006) he received the Nike Literature Prize , the most important literary award in Poland.
Several of Myśliwski's novels and plays were filmed, for example Klucznik in 1980 directed by Wojciech Marczewski , Pałac in 1980 by Tadeusz Junak and Kamień na kamieniu in 1995 by Ryszard Ber . Myśliwski wrote several scripts for television films himself .
