Wietzepark

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wietzepark is a 56  hectares large landscaped park in the town of Langenhagen and the community Isernhagen in the Hanover region . The landscape park is located north of Hanover between Langenhagen and Isernhagen in the Wietze valley, which is part of the “ Hannoversche Moorgeestnatural area .

history

The Wietzepark has been laid out since autumn 2000 on an area around 30 hectares originally used for agriculture in the area of the city of Langenhagen west of the Wietze. In 2001 the municipality of Isernhagen joined the idea of developing a landscape park as a local recreation area. She contributed an area of around 30 hectares east of the Wietze to the project. The park in Isernhagen began in 2004 and opened in 2005. Further sections were designed in the following years. The landscape park in the Langenhagen area was largely completed in 2006. Both park areas are connected by bridges over the Wietze in the south and north.

Landscape park

The Wietzepark consists of several areas. In the west on the outskirts of Langenhagen, orchards and tree-lined areas were created, which form the transition between populated areas and the open landscape. This is followed by a large meadow area, which is criss-crossed by a few rows of trees. In the Wietze area, the terrain level was lowered on both banks in order to create an area that is close to nature and characterized by damp locations. This area is characterized by an alternation of trees, water areas and temporary small bodies of water. The Hufeisensee Wietzepark connects to the east.

The two parts of the park are connected by two bridges over the Wietze, which were built in 2004 and 2005. The two identical bridges are in the north and south of the park. They are 11.5 meters long and 2.21 meters wide and designed as pedestrian and cycle path bridges.

When creating the landscape park, a conscious decision was made to juxtapose clearly geometrically designed areas in the west of the park in the Langenhagen area, where paths and roundels , perennial beds and a small lake were created, and natural areas along the Wietze. The near-natural areas on the left bank of the Wietze were designed in 2002. The design of the near-natural area on the right bank of the Wietze followed until 2009. The small lake in the southeast of the park in the Langenhagen area was created in 2003.

The Wietzepark can be reached from Langenhagen and the Isernhagen district of Niedernhägener Bauerschaft . There are parking spaces for vehicles in the south of the park. There are also two bus stops in the south of the park. The park is on Route 9 in the Hanover cycling region.

The Hufeisensee is a body of water created by gravel mining in the municipality of Isernhagen. The 11.7  hectare lake is located in the eastern part of the Wietzepark west of the Isernhagen district of Niedernhägener Bauerschaft .

The Horseshoe Lake, which is up to 20 m deep, is fed by groundwater. It was opened as a swimming lake in 2005 . In the south of the lake there are two bathing bays with sandy beaches and a lawn for sunbathing. There is also a restaurant and a service building with toilets. The bathing area is guarded by the DLRG during the bathing season .

A circular hiking trail runs around the Hufeisensee. In the northern area of the lake, gravel was extracted outside the bathing season until 2014

Adventure park

On the west bank of the Hufeisensee an adventure park of around 1.5 hectares with a high rope course was created, which extends from the bathing bay to the peninsula. The high ropes course was opened in spring 2012.

Renaturation

In 2008 the area between the Wietze and the road west of the Hufeisensee was renatured. In the course of the measure, a side arm of the Wietze, which is connected to the Wietze on one side, wet areas with reeds and meadows and wooded areas were created as a habitat for birds, amphibians and dragonflies. The area can be viewed from an elevated vantage point. The banks of the Wietze were partially flattened.
