Wigbert (Hildesheim)

Wigbert († November 1, 908 ) was the sixth bishop of Hildesheim from 880 to 908 .

Wigbert was an Immedinger . After Hans Goetting , Wigbert was a monk in Corvey. Bishop Markward of Hildesheim fell in the battle against the Normans on February 2, 880. Wigbert was probably Bishop of Hildesheim in the same year. Bishop Wigbert was at the synod in Mainz in July / August 888. The bishops present there spoke out in favor of Arnolf as the rightful king. Wigbert took part in the Synod of Tribur in May 895, which was connected with a court day at Arnolf . The Fulda Annals record 908 as the year of death. The Hildesheim Cathedral Necrology and the Necrology of St. Michael in Hildesheim record November 1st as the day of death. The Old Merseburg Book of the Dead names October 31st.
