Wigbert Benz
Wigbert Benz (* 1954 ) is a German teacher a. D. and historian.
Life
After several years of professional activity as a nurse and geriatric nurse, Benz obtained the general university entrance qualification at the Bismarck-Gymnasium Karlsruhe in 1982 and then studied politics, history and education at the Karlsruhe University of Education. His thesis "The Russian campaign of the Third Reich: causes, goals, effects. To cope with a genocide taking into account the history lesson ”was published in 1986 and 1988 in two editions by the publishers Haag and Herchen.
From 1987 to 2010 Benz was a history teacher in the Baden-Württemberg school service, and 1990–1997 mentor for students at the Ludwigsburg University of Education .
He analyzed school history books of secondary level I and is the moderator of the magazine Praxis Geschichte published by Westermann Schulbuch Verlag .
Benz published a number of contemporary history books and essays, including on the thematic treatment of the Second World War in class.
On the occasion of the Wehrmacht exhibition starting in 2001, he was in charge of a literature database with a discussion forum set up in advance at the Historisches Centrum Hagen , which supported the public with references to literature, particularly on World War II. After documents from the former Ludwigsburg Central Office were made available in 2000 , Benz began his research on Paul Carell . He is also a reviewer of the Süddeutsche Zeitung , H-Soz-u-Kult , the archive for social history .
