Viktor Georgievich Pugachev

Viktor Pugachyov ( Russian Виктор Георгиевич Пугачёв * 8. August 1948 in Taganrog ) is a Russian pilot and the inventor of the cobra maneuver . He showed this maneuver in public for the first time at the air show in Le Bourget with a Su-27 in 1989.

In 1970 he graduated from Yeisk Military Aviation School . Then he attended the test pilot school and the State Aviation Institute in Moscow . After two years at the Mikhail Gromov University for Flight Research , he went to OKB Sukhoi, where he tested the Sukhoi Su-9 , Sukhoi Su-15 , Sukhoi Su-24 , Sukhoi Su-25 and Sukhoi Su-27 . Pugachev made the first non- VTOL take- offs and landings from the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov .

Pugachev was named Hero of the Soviet Union in the late 1980s. He lives in Zhukovsky and works in a managerial position at the aircraft manufacturer Suchoi .
