Wilbert Baranco

Wilbert Barranco (* 15. April 1909 in Baton Rouge , Louisiana ; † 23. October 1983 in El Cerrito , California ) was an American jazz - pianist and singer.

Baranco played with Curtis Mosby in the early 1930s and then had his own formations until the 1940s, during the Second World War he played in military bands. In 1945 he recorded with Ernie Andrews in Los Angeles and had a trio in which the guitarist Buddy Harper and briefly Charles Mingus played. He then accompanied Dinah Washington as she sang in Lucky Thompson's All-Stars Band ( Mellow Mama , on Delmark Records ). With former colleagues from the Army band he put together an ensemble called Wilbert Baranco & His Rhythm Bombardiers ; Recordings were made in January 1946 a. a. for Black & White Records with Vic Dickenson , Dizzy Gillespie , Mingus, Howard McGhee , Snooky Young and Willie Smith . In the 1940s he still recorded with Jackie Kelson and Snooky Young ; In 1947 he had his own trio. He later worked as a music teacher, but then disappeared from the music business.
