Wilczkowo (Brzeżno)

Wilczkowo (German name Völzkow ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It belongs to Gmina Brzeżno ( Briesen ) in Świdwin ( Schivelbein ) district.

Geographical location

Wilczkowo is five kilometers south of Świdwin on the Voivodship Road 162 Kołobrzeg ( Kolberg ) –Świdwin– Drawsko Pomorskie ( Dramburg ) and is located on the southern tip of the 36-hectare and formerly so-called Völzkower Lake. This joins the so-called Buchholzsee without any connection. Wilczkowo's railway station is Świdwin on the Stargard Szczeciński – Gdańsk railway line .

In the land book of Neumark the place is Voltzikow first mentioned in the 1337th 1499 render the Voltzkow zu Voltzkow to the Elector Joachim Lehnseid. Völzkow formed until 1945 with Briesen (now Polish: Brzeżno ), Kussenow ( Koszanowo ) and Venzlaffshagen ( Więcław ) the official and civil registry district Briesen in the district court area Schivelbein . Until the district reform in 1932, Völzkow belonged to the Schivelbein district, which then became part of the Belgard (Persante) district.

On March 5, 1945 Völzkow was occupied by Soviet troops. The village came into Polish hands and the local population was expelled . Today Wilczkowo is part of the Brzeżno commune in the re-established Schivelbein district .

Until 1945 Völzkow was connected with Kussenow to form a parish. Kirchdorf was Völzkow. With the parishes Briesenund Venzlaffshagen the parish Venzlaffshagen in Kirchenkreis Schivelbein the ecclesiastical province of Pomerania in the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union . In 1940 the parish Völzkow-Kussenow counted 386 parishioners out of 962 in the entire parish. The church patronage was held by the manor owners Schmeling and Strelow (both Völzkow). The last German clergyman was Pastor Ernst Gauger.

Today Wilczkowo belongs to the parish Koszalin ( Köslin ) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Polish Evangelical-Augsburg Church .

Village church

The former half-timbered church , closed on three sides , was demolished in 1926 and replaced by a new building made of warped clinker bricks in 1933. A roof turret made of wood with a copper-clad tip was attached to the roof, which was covered with beaver tails.
