The album was awarded a platinum record by the RIAA on June 10, 1981.

Mike DeGagne from allmusic awards four and a half out of five points and says: "Wild-Eyed Southern Boys marked the onset of the band's success throughout the course of the decade" (Wild-Eyed Southern Boys marked the beginning of their success for the band in the further course of the Decade).
