The Wildensee is a mountain lake in the municipality of Mittenwald in the Upper Bavarian district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen .
It is located about 2.5 km northwest of Mittenwald at 1136 m above sea level, on the Kranzberg opposite the Karwendel mountains . It is about an hour's walk from Mittenwald .
The lake is only 2 m deep and is one of the warmest swimming lakes in the area. It drains over the Roßgraben into the Kranzbach . A bathing beach is available, and the Berggasthof Wildensee is located directly in the southwest in the village of the same name .
