The catchment area of the Kranzbach |
The Kranzbach (Oberlauf Kreidenbach ) flows through the eastern Werdenfelser Land and drains the northern slopes of the Hohen Kranzberg and the Brendten , the eastern part of the Wambergsattels , the southeastern foothills of the Estergebirge and parts of the humpback meadows north of Mittenwald . The catchment area of the Kranzbach also includes the Wildensee , Tennsee , Grubsee and Barmsee .
The Kranzbach, called Kreidenbach up to the confluence of the Roßgraben , flows past Kranzbach Castle through the Krün district of Klais , then touches the Krün districts of Barmsee and Bärnbichl and finally flows through the village of Krün . The Kranzbach originally flowed north of Krün, a little above the mouth of the Finzbach , directly into the Isar , as old topographical maps show. With the construction of the Walchensee power plant and the transfer canal from the Isar to the Walchensee ( Obernach Canal), the Kranzbach was introduced into this canal. Since then, the water of the Kranzbach has been flowing over the Walchensee and Loisach and only reaches its natural receiving water, the Isar, indirectly. The last 500 m of the Kranzbach up to its introduction into the Obernach Canal were piped.
For reasons of flood protection, a 1.2 km long flood basin was created through which excess water from the Kranzbach is drained north into the Finzbach before the village of Krün.
