Wilfred Blatherwick

Wilfred E. Blatherwick (born September 19, 1870 in Black Hawk County , Iowa , † April 7, 1956 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American tennis player .

biography

Blatherwick was one of ten children of John Henry and Janet McArthur Blatherwick. He participated in the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis in the tennis competition. In singles he won two matches in three sets after a bye at the beginning and then failed in the quarterfinals to Edgar Leonard , who clearly beat him with only two game losses.

He also competed in doubles with Orien Vernon . The pairing was initially defeated by the eventual Olympic champions Edgar Leonard and Beals Wright in two close sets.

Blatherwick was a practicing doctor in Los Angeles.
