Wilfred Geominy

Wilfred A. Geominy (born October 1, 1947 in Essen , † November 16, 2013 in Bonn ) was a German classical archaeologist .

Life

Wilfred Geominy studied Classical Archeology, Ancient History and Latin at the Universities of Tübingen and Bonn . 1982 received his doctorate in Bonn under Nikolaus Himmelmann . He then worked at the Rome Department of the German Archaeological Institute . From 1988 until his retirement in 2013, Geominy was curator of the Bonn Academic Art Museum . His tasks primarily included looking after the collections, lending, taking inventory of new additions and training archeology students. His scientific research focus was the Greek and Roman sculpture as well as the art of Hellenism. Geominy, who was married to an archaeologist, was honored with a scientific colloquium on his departure on October 25, 2013 in the lecture hall of the Academic Art Museum . The title of the event was “Deinde cessavit ars.” He planned to spend his retirement in Rome. He passed away just a few weeks after his retirement.
