Wilfried Wolters

Wilfried Wolters (born April 5, 1891 in Meyenburg (Osterstade) , † September 10, 1969 ) was a German Lutheran theologian and state superintendent of Celle .

Life

Wolters grew up mostly in Mulsum , where his father was transferred as a pastor soon after his birth. He attended high school in Stade and studied theology. In March 1913 he passed the first theological exam. He last took part in the First World War as a lieutenant in the reserve. He attended the seminary in Loccum Monastery and passed the second theological exam in September 1919. Ordained on November 1, 1919, he became a pastor coop. at the cathedral parish in Verden , assistant preacher in Sebexen in 1920 and pastor in Wersabe in 1921 . On April 1, 1925, he was appointed director of studies of the seminary at the Erichsburg . At the same time he was appointed to the scientific examination committee of the regional church.

On June 1, 1932, Wolters took up his post in the first pastor's position at St. John's Church in Soltau and superintendent of the Bergen-Soltau parish . As an active member of the Confessing Church , he was a co-signer of the Barmer Theological Declaration in May 1934 and participated in the church days of the Confessing Church in Ulm and Bad Oeynhausen. Regional Bishop August Marahrens appointed him in 1936 to the newly created office of regional superintendent in Celle , where he worked for over thirty years. In this function he was also a member of the Bishops' Council. In 1956 he moved to the fifth pastor's post in Soltau, giving up the ephoral office. On May 1, 1959, he retired as state superintendent.
