Wilhelm (Nassau-Weilburg)

Wilhelm von Nassau-Weilburg (born August 25, 1570 , † November 19, 1597 in Burgschwalbach ). After the death of his father, he received the Weilburg estate. This is not always recorded in historical works, but he is still considered the progenitor of a "middle" line of the Nassau-Weilburg family .

Life

He was the 7th child of his parents, Count Albrecht von Nassau-Weilburg-Ottweiler and his wife Anna von Nassau-Dillenburg . After the father's death on November 11, 1593, the three sons Ludwig, Wilhelm and Johann Casimir made an agreement ( Mutscharung ) according to which Ludwig II received the county of Ottweiler , Wilhelm Weilburg and Schwalbach Castle and Johann Casimir Gleiberg . Wilhelm's residence in Weilburg had only been completed a few years earlier, so that the castle was one of the most modern within the Walram line at the time.

Count Philip III. von Nassau-Saarbrücken signed an inheritance contract with his nephews on August 12, 1594, as he himself had no male descendants. After his death, the three young counts were to divide up all the lands among themselves. His daughter Anna Amalie, who was married to Count Georg von Nassau-Dillenburg , was supposed to receive a sum of 20,000 guilders to which she was entitled under the contract of March 13, 1574, as well as another 20,000 guilders in exchange for fruit, wine, cloth, kitchen and other items. Household dishes received.

After Wilhelm's untimely death, his legacy fell to his surviving brothers Ludwig II and Johann Casimir .

Wilhelm married Countess Erika von Isenburg-Birstein in Birstein on January 29, 1596 . The marriage contract was mediated by Count Philip III. negotiated by Nassau-Saarbrücken and Count Johann Albrecht von Solms. The bride received a dowry of 3,000 guilders and a so-called morning gift of 1,000 guilders. The couple had the following children:
