Wilhelm August Bernhard von Hiller

Wilhelm August Bernhard von Hiller (born July 20, 1806 in Korkenhagen , Saatzig district , † April 1, 1898 in Berlin-Lichterfelde ) was royal Prussian lieutenant general and most recently the commander of the 39th Infantry Brigade.

His parents were Friedrich Wilhelm Bernhard von Hiller (* September 5, 1783; † 1860) and his wife Wilhelmine Johanna von Jagow (* 1785; † 1826). His father was a master of Mokratz and a second lieutenant. D. last in Cuirassier Regiment No. 2

Life

He received his education at the high school in Stargard. After graduating, he went to the 4th Infantry Regiment on May 1, 1823. In 1824 he became a non-commissioned officer, on February 8, 1825 Portepeefähnrich and on February 20, 1826 Seconde-Lieutenant. From March 1, 1834, he was appointed battalion adjutant and on June 9, 1840, he was transferred as an adjutant to the governorate in Danzig. There he was promoted to Premier Lieutenant on February 26, 1842, and released from his position on April 8, 1848. On August 22, 1848 he became a captain and company commander in the 4th Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to major on September 11, 1855 and at the same time transferred to the 4th Landwehr Regiment, where he was commander of the 1st Battalion in Osterrode. On September 11, 1858, he was transferred to the 4th Infantry Regiment as commander of the Fusilier Battalion. Promoted to lieutenant colonel on July 1, 1860, he joined the 44th Infantry Regiment as commander on September 14, 1860. There he was made a colonel on October 18, 1861, and on January 18, 1863 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd class with ribbon . On January 4, 1866, he was entrusted with the command of the 28th Infantry Brigade, for this he was placed à la suite of the 44th Infantry Regiment, confirmed as commander on April 3, 1866, and made major general on June 8, 1866.

In the German War he fought in Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . For this he received the Pour le Mérite on September 20, 1866 .

After the war, he was appointed commander of the 39th Infantry Brigade on October 30, 1866. On July 14, 1868 he was put up for disposition with the character of Lieutenant General , on May 22, 1874 he received his final retirement with a pension. He died on April 1, 1898 in Berlin-Lichterfelde and was buried on April 6 in the Invalidenfriedhof .
