Wilhelm August Traugott Roth

Wilhelm August Traugott Roth (* 1720 near Erfurt ; † April 20, 1765 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German organist and composer .

Life

Roth received his first musical training from Jakob Adlung in Erfurt and Johann Gottfried Walther in Weimar .

He studied philosophy and theology at the University of Halle . From 1754 Roth worked in Berlin , where he had been the organist of the Petrikirche from 1758 . He deepened his musical education in the circle of Johann Friedrich Agricola , Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach , the Graun brothers and Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg and made composed contributions for the weekly Der Freund . In 1764 he succeeded Wilhelm Friedemann Bach as organist of the Marktkirche Unser Lieben Frauen in Halle , but died after a few months in office.
