Wilhelm Bernhard Jester

Wilhelm Bernhard Jester (born January 14, 1736 in Königsberg (Prussia) , † February 9, 1785 ibid) was a German lawyer.

Life

The son of the lawyer Johann Bernhard Jester enrolled at the University of Königsberg in 1752 to study law. With his relatives Sigismund Christoph Jester and Johann Ludwig L'Estocq , he had acted as a respondent in some disputations and became a member of the royal German society in Königsberg. After the outbreak of the Seven Years' War he went from Tettau to Magdeburg as Secretary of the Prussian Minister and Chancellor and stayed there until the Peace of Hubertusburg . He then returned to Königsberg, where he became an attorney at the court in 1763.

In 1764 he received his doctorate in law and became a lecturer at the law school. In 1765 he was appointed Kriminalrat, in 1773 he became a full professor of law and in 1779 he became the first full professor of the law faculty and chancellor of the university. In addition, in 1780 he was given supervision of the Wallenrodtsche Library and the scholarship system. In his capacity as a Königsberg university lecturer, he also took part in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg university. In the summer semesters 1773, 1777, 1779 and 1783 he was rector of the Alma Mater and in the winter semester 1777/78 he took over the vice-rectorate of the same.
