Wilhelm Bertelsmann (chemist)
Wilhelm Heinrich Bertelsmann (born May 11, 1873 in Bielefeld , † November 9, 1950 in Berlin ) was a German technician and chemist.
He studied in Berlin, Karlsruhe and Basel . In Karlsruhe he became a member of the Germania fraternity (today Teutonia ). Bertelsmann later worked as a chemist at the Messel mine near Darmstadt , then manager of the Stinnes coking plant near Carnap , and later of the Siegersdorfer works in Siegersdorf . In 1902 he became chief chemist at the municipal gas works in Berlin , in 1930 director of central gas utilization and from 1933 until his retirement in 1939 he was managing director of the company for gas detoxification . Bertelsmann wrote, among other things, a textbook on the gas industry (2 vol., 1911).
