Wilhelm Borchert (farmer)

Wilhelm Borchert (* 1897 in Nahrstedt ; † 1975 ) was a German farmer and church functionary.

Life

Borchert had been a member of the Stahlhelm and the German National People's Party since 1925 . In 1943 he was wounded and discharged as a major . He was one of the recognized Altmark breeders.

As a member of the Confessing Church , he was appointed provisional leadership of the Church Province of Saxony in 1946 .

Borchert actively opposed the repression policy of the GDR , especially the establishment of cooperatives and the persecution of Christians, and served several prison terms.
