Wilhelm Butterweck

Wilhelm Butterweck (born June 11, 1874 in Lipperode ; † May 9, 1943 in Gadderbaum - Bethel , today Bielefeld ) was a pastor and local researcher from Lippe .

Life

Wilhelm Butterweck was born on June 11, 1874 in Lipperode near Lippstadt . His parents were the farmer Dietrich Wilhelm Butterweck (1844–1886) and his wife Dorothee Christine Alers (1843–1918).

After primary school in Lipperode, he first attended the secondary school in Lippstadt and later switched to the grammar school in Burgsteinfurt . From 1896 to 1899 he studied theology at the universities in Berlin , Erlangen and Marburg . This was followed by the first (December 13, 1899) and second (November 28, 1901) theological exams in Detmold . After the ordination (June 22, 1902) Butterweck became assistant preacher in Oerlinghausen , later he held parish positions in Schötmar (1904/05; again from 1908), Blomberg (1905/07) and Elbrinxen (1907/08).

On May 19, 1905, Butterweck married Martha Elmendorf (1879–1946). From the marriage with the daughter of a cigar manufacturer in Oerlinghausen , the only child was daughter Ilse (1906–1953).

Butterweck retired in 1940 because of a heart condition and moved to Bad Salzuflen. Butterweck died on May 9, 1943 in Bethel.

Butterweck was a historian of the Lippe regional church . His main work was accordingly the book The History of the Lippe Regional Church , published in 1926 . In addition, he also dealt more generally with regional history and wrote various books and articles on it.
