Wilhelm Damwerth

Wilhelm Damwerth (born November 20, 1923 in Münster , † May 5, 1988 ) was a German writer .

Life

Damwerth attended commercial school and graduated from high school there. He took part in World War II as a soldier and became a prisoner of war. He studied German and philosophy, then worked as a freelance writer and editor. Damwerth made trips to Russia , Spitsbergen and Greenland , some of which he processed in his writings. He was one of the co-founders of the Association of German Writers and was there since 1956 honorary managing director for North Rhine-Westphalia, from 1964 to 1971 federal managing director, also managing director of the Society for Literature in North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1966 he was also an honorary judge at the tax court.
