Wilhelm Fechner

Wilhelm Fechner (born November 30, 1835 in Sprottau , Silesia, † April 8, 1909 in Berlin ) was a German portrait and genre painter and photographer.

Life

Wilhelm Fechner was born in Sprottau, today's Szprotawa in Lower Silesia , in 1835 . From 1853 to 1857 he studied at the Berlin Academy of the Arts, a. a. with August von Kloeber . In 1856 and 1862 he was represented at the academy exhibitions with his works, some of which were executed as pastels . He then worked as a portrait and genre painter in Berlin. He was the father and first teacher of the painter Hanns Fechner . From the end of the 1860s, Fechner's artistic activity shifted to portrait painting and photography and he ran a photographic artistic studio . When he moved to Potsdamer Straße 134a in 1884, the business was run by his son Otto Fechner. Fechner has received several awards for his photographic works.
