Wilhelm Fehse

Wilhelm Fehse (born April 27, 1880 in Magdeburg ; † January 7, 1946 in Torgau ) was a German German studies specialist and teacher who was primarily known as a Wilhelm Raabe researcher.

Life

Wilhelm Fehse was born in Magdeburg on April 27, 1880. He studied literature at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and received his doctorate in 1901 with a thesis on Christof Wirsung's La Celestina translations. Fehse became a teacher and taught at the Royal Victoria High School in Burg . He served as an officer in the First World War . During the war, he was appointed high school professor in 1917. In 1929 he finally switched to high school in Salzwedel . He was chairman of the Raabe Society. Wilhelm Fehse died on January 7, 1946 in the Torgau internment camp.

The Germanist Fehse's main research area was the work and life of the writer Wilhelm Raabe . Fehse's works include both self-authored and editorial publications on Raabe. In 1937 he published a notable, comprehensive biography of Raabe. Wilhelm Fehse's attitude to National Socialism is viewed critically today.
