Wilhelm Friedrich Eberhard Bernhard von Degenfeld (born January 16, 1778 in Ehrstädt , † March 31, 1855 in Bruchsal ) was Major General of the Cavalry in Baden . He was made an honorary citizen of Bruchsal.

Life

He was a son of Christoph Ferdinand III. Friedrich von Degenfeld (1739–1812) and Dorothea Regina Eleonore von Stain zum Rechtenstein (1744–1799).

At the age of 14 he was a page at the grand ducal court in Karlsruhe and at the age of 16 joined the fusilier regiment in Durlach as a lieutenant . In 1800 he was second lieutenant in the light dragoon regiment, in 1804 he was premier lieutenant in the Garde du Corps. In 1807 he was staff assistant master and chamberlain, in 1810 major in the Freystedt'schen dragoon regiment. In 1813 he was a lieutenant colonel and in 1814 a colonel. In 1816 he was given command of the Geusau Dragoon Regiment. In 1830 he was released into retirement as major general of the cavalry. The city of Bruchsal made him an honorary citizen.

He was buried in the castle church of Neuhaus .

family

He married Carolina Friderica von Maler (1783-1830). The marriage came from the son Eugen (1812-1831). However, the marriage was soon divorced and Carolina married Karl Friedrich von Kniestedt, Chamberlain from Baden, as a second marriage. His son Eugen shot himself in Bruchsal at the age of 19.
