Peter Melchior Wilhelm Hülsemann (born March 7, 1781 in Soest , † February 1, 1865 in Elsey , now part of Hagen ) was a German Protestant clergyman and hymn poet.

Life

Hülsemann was a son of the businessman Johann Hülsemann and his wife Sophia Höcker. After graduating from high school in his hometown, he studied at the University of Halle from 1800 . In addition to his studies, he also worked as a teacher at the orphanage of the Francke Foundations . After graduating in 1802, he took over a teaching position at the Weißenstein Institute in Elberfeld . In 1804 he was elected pastor in Meinerzhagen . From there in 1808 he moved to the pastorate in Elsey, which he held until his retirement on October 31, 1862. From 1822 to 1856 he worked part-time as school inspector for the county of Limburg , from 1830 to 1833 also as superintendent of the Iserlohn church district .

Hülsemann had been married to Lisette von den Bercken, daughter of a judiciary from Altena , since 1805 .

Hülsemann published several edification pamphlets and collections of sermons, which contain many sacred songs that he wrote. Fourteen of his total of more than 300 songs were included in the joint hymnal of the Synods of Jülich, Kleve and Berg and the Grafschaft Mark from 1835, on which Hülsemann also worked as an editor. Above all his patriotic song Father, crown our king with blessings, and his house was printed in hymn books and sung on many occasions well into the 20th century.
