Wilhelm Haarmann (lawyer)

Wilhelm Haarmann (born May 24, 1950 in Hagen ) is a German lawyer , auditor and tax consultant as well as honorary professor . He is a partner at the major US law firm McDermott Will & Emery .

Life

After graduating from high school, he studied law at the University of Münster and at the University of Freiburg . Then he did his legal clerkship in Bielefeld. In 1977 Haarmann was admitted to the bar. He received his doctorate on the subject of "Loss of the business basis in permanent legal relationships" at the University of Münster in 1978.

After working for the auditing firm Arthur Young in Frankfurt am Main, he was admitted as a tax advisor and auditor and in 1983 became a partner at Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. in Munich. In 1987 he founded with 6 colleagues, u. a. Alexander Hemmelrath , the interdisciplinary law firm Haarmann, Hemmelrath & Partner in Munich. This law firm grew to over 1,000 employees in Germany and abroad and was dissolved at the end of 2005. From the beginning of 2006 to February 2013 he was a founding partner and namesake of the Haarmann partnership . From March 2013 to December 2018, Haarmann was a partner at the British law firm Linklaters in their Frankfurt office. In January 2019, Haarmann moved to the Frankfurt office of the major US law firm McDermott Will & Emery as a partner.

He is a member of various supervisory boards , including a. at SAP AG , Vodafone D2 . Haarmann is an expert in tax and corporate law and is known for specialist events and publications. He also acts as an arbitrator. In addition to his consulting work, Haarmann was also active as a professional author.

In 2000 Haarmann became honorary professor at the University of Bamberg . He was a member of the World Economic Forum for 15 years (until 2007) . He was a member of the board of directors of the Federal Association of German Private Equity and Venture Capital Association eV from 2005 to 2009. Haarmann is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Global Panel Foundation .

He is married and has a daughter. He lives in Kronberg im Taunus .
