Wilhelm Walter Ernst Haenel (born March 28, 1891 in Eberswalde ( Brandenburg ), † July 20, 1967 ) was a German engineer and during the Nazi era in a leading position involved in the "wild aryanizations " in the Salzkammergut .

Life

Haenel grew up in Berlin-Charlottenburg , did military service in World War I and graduated from the Schinkelsche Bauakademie in Berlin in 1923 with an engineering examination. He then worked for the municipal gas works in Charlottenburg. In 1924 he married the pianist Gabriela (called Ella) Pancera . In 1926 the couple moved to Bad Ischl , where the artist had lived. In 1927 he started producing liqueurs in Bad Ischl and also ran an agricultural business. After the death of his wife, who was 21 years older than him, in 1932, Haenel mainly worked as a room lessor.

From 1935 Haenel worked for the foreign organization of the NSDAP . On December 1, 1936 he became their full member. After the " Anschluss of Austria ", Henel appeared as the "Party representative" for the sale of Jewish properties in the Salzkammergut. In this role Haenel distinguished himself as an unscrupulous “Aryan” who used particularly efficient blackmailing methods when selling Jewish property. Haenel was one of the main people responsible for the "wild aryanizations" in the Salzkammergut.

After the end of World War II, Wilhelm Haenel was arrested by the American Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC). From 1945 to 1949 he was interned in various camps (Bad Ischl, Ludwigsburg, Moosburg, Dachau, Munich). The Dachau camp ruling chamber classified him in 1948 as "less polluted".
