Wilhelm Hegenscheidt

Wilhelm Hegenscheidt jun. (* May 13, 1861 in Gliwice , Upper Silesia ; † September 22, 1895 in Ratibor , Upper Silesia) was a German iron industrialist in Ratibor.

Life and work

His father Carl August Wilhelm Hegenscheidt (1823-1891) came from Altena , Westphalia to Upper Silesia and founded a wire, nail and chain factory in Gleiwitz in 1852. Wilhelm junior married the daughter of the ironworks industrialist Emil Holzs (1840–1915). His brothers were: Rudolf (1859–1908), Otto (1867–1933) and Friedrich Hegenscheidt (1870–1954).

Wilhelm junior gained his first professional experience in his father's company. Wilhelm Hegenscheidt founded a building hardware factory in Ratibor in 1889. He only experienced the success of his company for six years. After he died in 1895 at the age of 34, the Wilhelm Hegenscheidt G. mbH machine tool factory named after him was founded in Ratibor in the following year, 1896 . Ernst Blau continued to manage the company.
