Wilhelm Heinrich von Schorlemer (* after 1600 ; † September 14, 1670 ) was canon in the prince-bishopric of Münster.

Life

Wilhelm Heinrich von Schorlemer was born as the son of Caspar Dietrich von Schorlemer zu Overhagen (Amtsdroste in Werl) and his wife Louise von Rhede zu Brandlecht in the Westphalian noble family von Schorlemer . After finishing school, he studied at the University of Paris. With the receipt of the tonsure on April 12, 1625 Wilhelm Heinrich was prepared for a spiritual life. On November 13, 1625, he submitted an electoral declaration of consent to the cathedral priest of the late Wilhelm von Elverfeldt in Münster . He was canon and belonged to the cathedral chapter . On September 21, 1634 he received the minor ordinations and associated with a subdiaconate in Winterswijk. On August 27, 1643, he was suspended and placed under house arrest for the first time because of his immoral conduct. The Elector Ferdinand had him arrested on June 30, 1646 in Werl and placed under arrest. After 1650 Schorlemer continued his scandalous way of life in Münster. He was supported by the cathedral dean of Mallinckrodt , who believed him to be an ally against his archenemy, the prince-bishop of Galen . Because of the disputes, von Galen had his nephew von Mallinckrodt arrested in 1657 and brought to Ottenstein Castle , where he died in 1664. It is very surprising that after Mallinckrodt's death Schorlemer was able to continue his mischief unhindered and that he also received the archdeaconate Billerbeck. Besides von Schorlemer, there were other canons who also lived in cohabitation . However, none of them was excluded from the cathedral chapter. That was probably due to the fact that they absolutely wanted to prevent scandals. Wilhelm Heinrich von Schorlemer was buried in the cathedral in Münster .
