Wilhelm Hengstler
Wilhelm Hengstler (born January 3, 1944 in Graz ) is a Styrian writer , screenwriter and director .
biography
After graduating from high school in 1963, he studied law at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz and received his doctorate in 1969. Already during his law studies he emerged as a writer in the group of the Forum Stadtpark , his first reading of a publication in the manuscripts , introduced by Peter Handke , Held in 1966. In between, he also took on activities as a teacher and completed various postgraduate studies: political sciences / legal philosophy (Graz), econometrics (IHS Vienna), technical mathematics (TU Graz). Various activities as a director, writer and exhibition maker followed. From 1977 to 1980 he was the cultural editor of the Kronenzeitung , succeeding Reinhard P. Gruber. From 1980 he was a literary and theater critic for Volksstimme , and from 1986 to 1990 he was the cultural editor of the Styrian monthly magazine Klipp . He has been a theater critic for the press since 1997, and he also writes (film) essays, film and book reviews and essays for the Kleine Zeitung .
In addition to his literary work, Hengstler also wrote film reviews and theoretical works on film history, headed the film department of the Forum Stadtpark and also worked as a director (" Purgatory ", 1989, based on the novel by Jack Unterweger; "Tief oben", 1995; as well as several documentaries) . In 1978 he appeared alongside other authors in the anthology “Ausgeträum. Ten stories. ”In Suhrkamp-Verlag, in 1987 he published the prose volume“ The last premiere. Stories ”and in 2003 Droschl's novella“ fare ”, which is about the unusual story of a young man in modern Greece.
