Wilhelm Heraeus (born January 9, 1860 in Hanau ; † October 20, 1948 there ; full name: Jean August Wilhelm Heraeus ) was a German chemist and entrepreneur .

Life

Wilhelm Heraeus was the son of the pharmacist and founder of the WC Heraeus works , Wilhelm Carl Heraeus .

Heraeus studied chemistry in Göttingen and Berlin and graduated in Berlin with the pharmacy exam and the doctorate to Dr. phil. from. In 1887 he returned to Hanau and joined his father's company, consisting of a pharmacy and a factory. Two years later he took over the management of the company together with his brother Heinrich Heraeus . Together they both expanded the family business. His son Wilhelm Heinrich joined the company in 1925 as the third generation.

Like his father, Wilhelm Heraeus was also active in local politics in Hanau and became a city ​​councilor in 1898 and a member of the city's magistrate in 1907 .

As a student he became a member and in 1917 an honorary member of the Corps Hannovera Göttingen .
