Wilhelm Kaltenstadler

Wilhelm Kaltenstadler (born September 22, 1936 in Affing ) is a German historian and author of several specialist books. Kaltenstadler published works on ancient and European modern social, economic and cultural history as well as on Bavarian folklore.

Life

After completing his schooling at the St. Stephan and Descartes high schools in Neuburg an der Donau , which he graduated from high school in 1958, Kaltenstadler studied philosophy and Hebrew language teaching at the St. Stephan Philosophical University in Augsburg. This was followed by studies of history and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at the Rudolfs University in Vienna , where he studied economic history with Alfred Hoffmann in 1966 with the subject of "Bavarian-Austrian trade policy in the 18th century ". summa cum laude ”. This was followed by a degree in economics from 1966 to 1969 with a scholarship from the “Volkswagenwerk Foundation”, which he graduated “magna cum laude” with a degree in economics. This was followed by post-graduate studies with a diploma in 1970 on the history of the Mediterranean Middle Ages at the University of Florence .

After working as a research assistant at the Institute for Social History and Demography with Walter Rubner at the University of Regensburg until 1971, he became academic advisor for the field of "Economic History" at the Institute for Ancient History at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich in 1972 and from 1974 also Lecturer in ancient social and economic history. From 1977 Kaltenstadler devoted himself in addition to his journalistic activities above all to adult education with courses for the training of business economists in tax, teaching and finance, and further education courses for students as part of upgrade studies at the institutes "Sabel Academy" Munich and the Munich adult education center . Since 1987 he has been working for the Telekolleg in Ingolstadt in the subject "History" and since 1997 also in the subjects of corporate accounting, business administration and economics. In addition, from 1990 he gave lectures on the topics of information education and globalization in cooperation with various conferences and events at the Universities of Prague and the Braca-Karic University of Belgrade . In May 1998 he was appointed honorary professor at the Institute for Strategic Studies at the Braca Karic University in Belgrade because of his extensive knowledge of Slavic languages, the history and culture of Slavic peoples in the Middle Ages and modern times, and interdisciplinary academic work. He has been living near Munich in retirement since 2002. Kaltenstadler has four children and is married to Hermine, b. Biederwolf.

His main work is the book “Work Organization and Management System in the Roman Agricultural Writers”, Gustav Fischer Verlag, Stuttgart 1978. An article “History of Management - Antiquity” was also published on this subject in the concise dictionary of management by Poeschel Verlag, Stuttgart 1995. His books “The civilization factor” and “How Europe became what it is” also attract attention. Here, Kaltenstadler describes that today's European view of history , which was largely rewritten in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, led to an overestimation of Hellenism and Arab cultural influences and an underestimation of Jewish cultural influences, especially the first centuries after Christ.
