Wilhelm Karsch (born June 21, 1899 in Essen , † April 9, 1973 in Barmstedt ) was a German chess composer and editor.

Chess composition

Karsch composed multi-moves and self-mated , but was also active in the field of fairy tale chess. Several of his compositions were included in the FIDE albums , where he achieved a total of 6.83 points.

The swallow

In 1924 Karsch was one of the founders of the Schwalbe problem association . From June 1939 to 1943 he took over the post of first chairman. When the magazine Die Schwalbe was no longer published because of the Second World War , Karsch informed the association members from 1943 to 1946 through his communications with the Schwalbe . From 1952 to 1957 he was responsible for the fairy tale chess section . Then he concentrated on his magazine feenschach, only in the second half of 1967 he was again active for Die Schwalbe.

In 1949 Karsch founded the magazine feenschach , which focuses on the fields of fairy tale chess and retro tasks. Until 1970 he was the responsible editor here.

Daily newspapers

From 1933 to 1935 he published chess problems in the Kieler Neuesten Nachrichten , then from 1936 to 1939 in the Nordwestdeutsche Zeitung .

In the field of problem theory, Karsch made several contributions:

  • 1952 circular runs in the chess problem (together with Wilhelm Hagemann )

Private

After studying natural sciences in Kiel, Karsch worked as a teacher at grammar schools, for example in the 1960s as a math teacher at the Bismarck School in Elmshorn.
