Wilhelm Krüger (* 1820 ; † 1883 ) was a German composer and Württemberg court pianist.

Life

Wilhelm Krüger, son of the flautist and king. Württemberg chamber musician Gottlieb Krüger , emerged as a pianist and composer of sophisticated salon music . Krüger was appointed court pianist in Württemberg and was later professor at the Stuttgart Conservatory . From 1845 to 1870 he worked in Paris , among other things as a song accompanist. In 1847 he made a guest appearance with his father at a concert in Vienna . He also gave concerts in the Gewandhaus Leipzig .

Krüger, who held an “outstanding artistic position” in Paris as a pianist, composed numerous piano works, including a piano concerto in G major, a piano sonata in C major, and salon pieces , including La gazelle , La harpe eolinne and Chanson you gondolier . A contemporary critic praised Krüger as a “technically very capable virtuoso”, but his playing is in any case “more exact than ingenious”.

Kruger is with entries in January and February 1842 Household Diary of Clara Schumann and the marriage diaries of Clara Schumann and Robert Schumann mentioned. Some music manuscripts and letters from Krüger are in the holdings of the Württemberg State Library . Krüger was a member of the Stuttgart Freemason Lodge Wilhelm to the rising sun .
