Wilhelm Lettenbauer
Wilhelm Lettenbauer (born July 30, 1907 in Fürth ; † January 5, 1984 in Ehrenkirchen ) was a German Slavist .
From 1926 Lettenbauer studied Slavic Philology, German and Byzantine Studies in Munich and Vienna and received his doctorate in Munich in 1930 under Erich Berneker on The Deminutivum in Russian . In the following years he worked as a lecturer and translator and completed his habilitation in 1944 on the tree cult among the Slavs . In 1954 he was appointed associate professor at the University of Erlangen and in 1958 he was appointed full professor. In 1962 he was appointed to the University of Freiburg , where he stayed until his retirement in 1975. From 1978 to 1981 he held the chair for Slavic Studies at the University of Basel .
