Wilhelm Mössel

Rudolf Maximilian Heinrich Wilhelm Mössel (born October 20, 1897 in Munich ; † September 5, 1986 in Passau ) was a German naval officer , most recently rear admiral in World War II .

Life

Wilhelm was born the son of the painter Julius Mössel and his wife Karoline Schönchen. From 1902 Mössel attended primary school in Munich and in 1907 switched to secondary school in Weilheim, where he stayed until 1913. The following three years he attended secondary school in Munich, which he graduated with the Abitur.

On July 4, 1916, Mössel joined the Imperial Navy as a volunteer with the qualification for a career as a naval officer during the First World War . On September 18, 1918, he was promoted to lieutenant in the position of radio officer on the small cruiser SMS Graudenz . He stayed on board through the end of the war until March 10, 1920, then was a temporary watch officer on the small cruiser SMS Königsberg and was made available to the chief of the North Sea naval station from March 17 to October 8, 1920 .

On April 1, 1922 he was promoted to first lieutenant at sea , on June 1, 1929 to lieutenant captain , on September 1, 1935 to corvette captain , on April 1, 1939 to frigate captain , on July 1, 1940 to sea captain and finally on 1 October 1944 as Rear Admiral.

In the period from September 3, 1916 to September 29, 1930 he served at sea, most recently on the Schleswig-Holstein liner . From February 1, 1937 to May 9, 1945 he was naval liaison officer at the Reich Ministry of Aviation / High Command of the Air Force . His last post was the General Staff of the Air Force . On May 10, 1945, he was captured by British forces. He was in the following prisoner of war camps in Bischofswiesen , London, Zedelgem / Belgium, Allendorf / Hesse, Neu-Ulm and Garmisch. He was released on March 6, 1947.

After his release from captivity in 1947, he lived with his aunt Emmy Mössel in Frasdorf . In 1960 he sold the house in Feldafing and moved with Emmy Mössel to Passau, where they both bought a house.
